This thread has no meaning to me as the Holdsworth models are possibly the fugliest guitars ever. That headstock is just hilarious.

The process starts when you contact Carvin. Then they work closely with me to determine whether you are worthy of a refund. In turn, we create a list of "good return people" and "whiners". It takes three consecutive Carvin purchases without a return to become eligable to be removed from the "whiner" list.Of course I make the final call on that.

It's really that simple folks.

I've got a Spider III 75x2 as well. For what I use it for, I find it satisfactory. If I were gigging out on a regular basis, I'd definitely look into something a bit more "authentic" but I definitely feel that the Spiders have their place in the world. I just don't think the Spidervalve sounds any good at all.

I play a lot of jazz and country, as well as rock and blues, and I haven't found another guitar that will let me go from jazzbox on the neck pickup to Tele on the coil-split bridge pickup, without changing amp settings, the way my HF2 does. It'll also do a pretty fair simulation of a Strat neck/middle combination--not exact, but it will suggest it. Strat neck pickup? Not really--but the neck single-coil sound on the HF2 is certainly usable.

This largely reflects my own experience as well.

In my auditory world, however, even as someone who fell in love with and bought a Holdsworth with the intent of using it as my jazz guitar, I'll never again consider a 24 fret guitar as something even approaching the description "tonally versatile," at least not in comparison to literally dozens of other guitar designs out there.

Well, no offense, but my auditory world differs. I'd never consider the difference between 22 frets and 24 as in any way equating to the difference between versatile and nonversatile (whatever that actually means, because no one has really defined it). There are way too many variables IMHO for that kind of fast-and-dirty generalization to work. I realize you said "in my auditory world"; I'm just coming at it from a different place. After all, the OP's auditory world might conceivably be closer to mine. (Or to yours, of course.)

I consider my HF2 a pretty versatile guitar, at least as versatile as, if not more so than, any Strat or Stratoid I've played. Certainly more than any Les Paul, for me, anyway. With the coil taps, you get some highly usable sounds. No, not exactly like a Strat, for instance, but so what? Usable is usable. Much like some of the early 24-fret PRSs. Like them or dislike them, they were pretty versatile guitars IMO.

As for the idea that there are literally "dozens" of designs out there that are more versatile than any 24 fret guitar could be, that certainly doesn't accord with my experience or observation. But mileage varies, as always.

As for what I think the OP's original question was, I imagine an H2T could be quite versatile as well, especially with the coil splits. In fact, I hope to buy one myself in the coming year.

Well its been a while since I last posted, lets just say the guitar arrived, and before I knew it my condensed class started and I did not have time to post any pics. I sincerely apologize.

Okay here is the 1st guitar I purchased from Carvin over 13 or 14 years ago. The DC127

The 2nd guitar I purchased from Carvin over 13 to 12 years ago. The AC175

And finally the 3rd guitar I received on the 12th of May. The CS3

So I have finally gotten time to post pics, so the ringing from the cowbell can be silenced in my head. Oh the sleepless nights!!

Now to complete my collection I just need a Carvin Bolt.

Once again. Thanks for the alder vote. I think when I pull the trigger, I'll stay stock and go with alder for the very reasons you've stated, specifically weight. I've heard about H2's being a bit neck heavy, as was my AE185 I once owned (but sold for other reasons). But with a total guitar weight of just over six pounds, I longed for a guitar that would be easy on my back yet have an adjustable bridge (unlike the 185). With alder being lighter than maple, this should negate some of that neck heaviness. Thanks again for the info guys.

(Need to get this thread movin' a little...)

Not sure what will happen with the thread, but that's my best laugh of the day and is contributing to a Happy 4th! Thanks for sharing.

I only want one new option from Carvin. My apologies if there is already another misnamed Option 59, but that's the one I want. The one that specs ANY Carvin custom electric with a neck similar to the LP 59. I'm getting used to my CT6 neck, but I bought an Epi LP recently just so I would have that feel. I do pick the Carvin up and the playability is better. Not sure what it is ... maybe the back of the neck is slicker (gloss) or the frets just a bit taller to help me find my way or maybe the ebony surface somehow. But the neck is still is too thin for my liking. Apparently I'm in good company here too! One minor gripe I have is I wish the nut was set up with 1mm more space between the edge and the High E string. The Epi is perfect in that respect for me.

I wish Carvin would poll us and find out what the potential demand is. Maybe it's these thin necks that are the culprit causing the perception of the bright sounds.

I guess Carvin got tired of me complaining about Carvin being misspelled, so they killed the spell checker ... hmmm

I asked someone recently "should I buy [guitar X] or [guitar Y]?" His answer was "that's a highly personal decision, and an area wherein I shouldn't even entertain giving you an answer. It's like asking me 'should I get the chicken or the fish?'"

You know what's best for you, Isyou. And I suspect you're making the right decision, for you. When it comes to guitar tone, few people can be moved from their preconceived notions. If your H2T sounds warmer and more versatile to you, that's what counts.
